In the Studio with Bree Addams

My Charlotte trip in the fall of 2015 had once near constant. Rain. Lots of rain. While driving into the mountains out of Tennessee I stopped a took a nice picture of a puffy, fair weather cloud against the otherwise blue sky.

I think it started raining about the time I hit the edge of Charlotte and rained most of the time until well after I was back home. The few outdoor shoots I worked in all, including this earlier one with Mikki Marvel, included with at least some rain and in two we were pretty well drenched along the way.

So when what had been planned to be an early morning shoot showed a cool and wet forecast for a shoot with Bree and Floofie, we made other plans and ended up working in a studio in the area. Thanks to some lighting work we did at least managed to get close to sunrise lighting.

The Falls One – With Bree Addams

As I put together my schedule for August I found that I’d be working in western North Carolina a lot that month. That’s not unusual, but I’d worked a lot less there than normal this summer for several reasons. I had the idea to try a bit of an experiment and schedule several shoots to overlap in locations. I had two spots in mind in particular that I wanted to explore the differences I could get in the same spot, but varying the time of day, model, and just the natural evolution of the landscape over the course of a month. The first is a waterfall location that’s a favorite of mine and the second is an open meadow in the same area.

In the end I set up three shoots among four models. The middle of the three shoots took place with Bree Addams. It’s the first time we’ve gotten the chance to work together in a couple years. Enjoyed the chance to work together and love her dedication and willingness to go well beyond to get these shots. The weather was cooperative for the most part. While it drizzled a bit on us, no real rain fell during the shoot. The weather made up for it in my drive back to Tennessee that night in a near steady and at times heavy rain.

First some shots at the falls. Love the nice shaping on the first photo of her.

I mentioned Bree is willing to put herself out there for the shot right? The water was moving pretty good at the falls and she still got into it for some shots like this one.

And the meadow? Actually for this photo I’m standing in the meadow shooting back toward her.

July Outdoor Shoot

A few photos from from a late July shoot.  First time I’d worked with her and quite enjoyable to work with.  We did an outdoor shoot again and we made it to a waterfall that is one of my favorite spots.  You’ve seen the location before in my shoot last fall with Melissa and Katlyn and I often shoot in the same area when not at the falls.  The falls is very dependent on water flow and this day it just wasn’t there in spite of some decent rain in the days before.

Ten Days on the Road

Bree Addams on a BridgeI’ve not been able to shoot much of late.  I’ve been travelling most of the last couple weeks for either work or fun with no time to shoot along the way.  Two separate trips to Nashville and then a long road trip that stretched from Michigan to North Carolina.  Just about every day began with getting up early before I was on the go all day and ending by going to bed late.  The next day I’d repeat.  I think I’ve had a taste of the life of some of the travelling models that I work with.  Enjoyed the chance to see a lot of friends I don’t get to see that often along the way and spend a few days with a friend since college.

Over the weekend I did get a chance to do some flea market and yard sale shopping where I picked up some props for coming shoots.  Along with the usual hats, coats, and belts I also ran into a great price on a Canon AE-1 film SLR with lenses and flash.  Not looking to get into shooting film at the moment, but that might make a nice winter project when outdoor shooting goes away for a few months.  Already have a plan to use the camera in a shoot later this week.  Also have a shoot coming up on Sunday along with a couple last month to catch up on so expect more posts soon.

Speaking of outdoor shoots above is an interesting photos from a shoot with Bree Addams right before I started travelling.  Posting with very little processing to show the interesting lighting effect on her at that moment.  It almost looks like I’ve pasted her into the photo, but that’s how it came out of the camera.
